Man dies following fire at Stoke-on-Trent property

A 75-year-old man has died following a fire in a Stoke-on-Trent property.

Staffordshire Police was alerted to a fire in a property on Ridgway Road, Shelton by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at around 12:50pm on Saturday (8 August)

The police force said fire crews extinguished the fire "quickly" and the building was evacuated.

A man aged 75 was found dead, while four others were treated for smoke inhalation.

One woman in her 60s was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The next of kin have been informed and being supported by specially-trained officers.

"A scene has been set up whilst we work with fire investigators to determine how the fire started.

"Anyone with information about the fire should call 101 quoting incident 432 of 8 August."
