A man has died and another is in hospital after a "serious assault" inside a property in Trent Vale. 

Emergency services were called to a property on Lymebrook Place just after 4pm this afternoon and found two men with serious injuries. 

A man in his 30s later died after being attended to by paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service. Another man in his 40s was taken to hospital with "less serious injuries". 

Staffordshire Police is treating the death as unexplained while investigations into the circumstances leading up to the man's death begin. Residents in the area are being advised to expect an increased police presence this evening.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers are appealing for anyone who saw or heard suspicious behaviour in the Trent Vale area this afternoon (10 March) to come forward as they are investigating a man's death.

"We were called to a report of a serious assault inside a property on Lymebrook Place, Stoke-on-Trent at around 4:05pm.

"Officers found two casualties inside the property with serious injuries. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man in his 30s was declared deceased a short while later. A second man in his 40s has been taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained whilst detectives work to establish the circumstances leading up to the man's death.

"Officers are currently trying to identify and inform the deceased's next of kin and until then the public are discouraged from speculating online.

"Local residents will see an increased presence in the area this evening to provide reassurance and to help gather information. 

"House to house enquiries are being completed in the local area to help find out more about what happened.
