A man has sadly passed away after suffering a 'medical emergency' whilst driving to a mosque in Stoke-on-Trent on Monday evening.

The man's car crashed into a wall on Chaplin Road, Normacot, and bystanders battled to save his life before paramedics arrived at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident on Chaplin Road at 6.32pm, two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered a car that had hit a wall, but crews were told the driver had suffered a suspected medical emergency prior to the collision.

"The man was already receiving medical attention from bystanders on the arrival of ambulance staff, who immediately began administering advanced life support.

"The man was then transported to Royal Stoke University Hospital in a critical condition."
