A man has been arrested after a crash on the M6 involving a suspected stolen car.

At 4:50am today (14 May), Staffordshire Police were contacted by West Midlands Police (WMP) following reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Two men, reportedly carrying a machete, had stolen a car in West Bromwich.

The owner of the car was not injured during the robbery.

Officers spotted the blue Audi S3 on the M6 northbound between junctions 12 and 13.

Near Stafford services, the Audi was involved in a crash with a HGV with the two men fleeing the scene on foot.

Firearms officers along with a dog unit and the National Police Air Service were called to the scene.

The driver of the HGV was taken to hospital by ambulance.
