Over 24 miles of ageing water pipes in Stoke-on-Trent are set to be replaced from next week as part of a major project to provide the city with a "more reliable" water supply - with disruption likely for drivers.

The Severn Trent works will go ahead in Hanley, Burslem and Sneyd Green, with the first phase starting on 1 April at Milton Road, Berwick Road, Birches Head Road and Fairfax Street.

The full £25 million Severn Trent project to modernise the city's water infrastructure won't be complete until April 2027 at the earliest.

The works are expected to result in "some disruption" for residents and businesses and Stoke-on-Trent council has said that the work will affect bus services.

Meanwhile, the works near Burslem Park, Ford Green and Smallthorne will begin the following week on Monday 7 April, affecting Lord Street, Kinver Street, Ford Green Road, Tellwright Street, Park Road and Hamil Road.

Charlene Richards, community communications officer for Severn Trent, said: "These works are part of a huge project for Severn Trent that will bring massive benefits to Stoke-on-Trent and our wider region.

"The new modern materials will last up to 100 years and create a more secure network for all of our customers.

"We understand that large-scale works such as this will cause some disruption, so we want to make sure that customers have all the information."
