A visitor centre and bar dedicated to Motörhead frontman, Lemmy Kilmister, officially opened in a Stoke-on-Trent town today (Friday 1 May).

IFK Legacy CIC, the team behind the Lemmy statue, hosted an opening event for the Lemmy-themed visitor centre, Old No. 6, in Market Place, Burslem – also referred to as Lemmy Plaza.

Krusher Joule, well known rock raconteur and album cover designer, cut the ribbon at 12pm to mark the opening followed by a performance from singer Stephanie Edwards.

Director of IFK Legacy Andy Edwards, said: "It's glorious. I've shed a few tears, I have to admit.

"Especially with the singer we've got today, she did a fantastic job.

"People were gathered here from early this morning as well as coming along last night."

He added: "Everybody's hugging each other and smiling. You can tell people feel comfortable and that's mission accomplished."

The centre houses a bar, which serves official Motörhead beers, and is decorated with photographs of Lemmy and Motörhead memorabilia.

IFK Legacy CIC, named after Ian Fraser Kilmister, hope that the bar will act as a place for people to visit when they make journeys to see the Lemmy statue.

The musician, once described as having 'one of the most recognisable voices in rock', was born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Burslem.

Andy explained how he hopes that Old No. 6 will build on the success of the statue and continue to encourage visitors to the 'mother town'.

He said: "Today is also an invitation to have a look at the progress on the Burslem Market which is concurrent with what we're trying to do with the former Queen's Theatre.

"I think one thing kicks the next thing along. Burslem as a regeneration project is definitely underway.

"You can see that visually and it's great to be part of it."

Council Leader Jane Ashworth, who is also the ward councillor for Burslem, and David Williams, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, attended the opening.

Cllr Ashworth said: "Burslem wants to come back to life, it wants to be the mother town once again."

She added: "A lot of this is essentially the community, it's community organisations. This here and now is the Lemmy lads. They're driving this change."

MP David Williams said that the team behind IFK Legacy CIC are "incredible" and celebrated that "people come into the heart of Burslem from all over the world to see the Lemmy statue."

He said: "There's a real vibe around Burslem at the moment.

"People are coming up to me when I'm in the town saying they can feel there's a vibe in Burslem."

The opening comes ahead of the Lemmy-themed free festival being organised by IFK Legacy CIC on 23 May.
