Halifax set to close Newcastle-under-Lyme branch

A Newcastle-under-Lyme bank is set to close for good, as the bank explains customers are turning to online services and phone banking.
Halifax has announced that its Newcastle-under-Lyme branch, on Ironmarket, will close on 19 October 2026.
It comes as Lloyds Banking Group has announced a number of closures across Britain.
The closing branch review shared by Halifax stated: "We regularly review how our customers choose to bank with us. And, with most now using our app, online services or phone banking, we're closing our Newcastle-under-Lyme branch."
The bank also explained that customers that have accounts with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland, can do their banking at any of their branches.
An alternative to the closing Halifax Newcastle-under-Lyme branch is Lloyds Newcastle-under-Lyme, on High Street, where there is also an alternative free to use cash machine.
The closing branch review also stated: "Before we close a branch, we carefully consider and analyse how customers will be affected".
According to the review, this includes how customers are choosing to bank, how often customers use the branch and alternative ways to bank in the area among other factors.
Halifax revealed 635 customers use the branch regularly each month. The figure is based on customers who transacted at the counter or IDM in four out of six months ending February 2026.
The bank also found that 67 per cent of customers had also used other Halifax branches, and online banking or called them in the six month period ending February 2026.
