Plans for five houses in a North Staffordshire village have received unanimous approval from councillors.

The approval for the homes set to be built off Clay Lake in Endon comes as 17 objections were raised by residents.

Three of the houses will have six bedrooms with a detached garage while the remaining two houses will be five-bedroom with an integral garage.

All the properties will be accessed using a shared private driveway, which will form a cul-de-sac, using the existing driveway access for The Grange.

The application follows a previous application, which was withdrawn, to demolish the existing house known as The Grange and build 22 new homes. The application was called into the planning committee by Councillor Joe Porter.

Planning agent Teresa Critchlow told the planning committee: "The application proposes a sustainable and logical extension to the settlement at a time when there is a chronic housing undersupply within the district.

"The quantum of development, its size, its form and design is considered appropriate and in the absence of any other technical matters it's hoped members will support the scheme."

Following concerns raised by the council's tree officer the plans were scaled back from six to five houses.

This has allowed the houses to be spaced further apart and located further away from protected trees.

The planning committee at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council unanimously approved the application.

Councillor Keith Flunder, who represents Brown Edge and Endon said: "I'm glad that the whole thing has been cut right back to five houses.

"I just think that is more in keeping with the other developments along that part of Clay Lake.

"I'm glad to see most people, including the parish council, are more or less in line with what's going on there because it is a development site."
