Free parking is being offered in District Council car parks across the Moorlands in the run-up to Christmas.

It is hoped this will boost businesses in the area by encouraging people to shop local.

Drivers can park without charge in car parks in Biddulph and Leek on every Saturday in December, including Christmas Eve.

In Cheadle, parking will be free on December 10, 16, 17 and 23.

Jo Booth, owner of Jo Booth Design in Cheadle, said: "Free parking in December will be a massive boost to the town. Hopefully this will encourage more people to use their local shops and facilities and help to boost the local economy."

Councillor James Aberley said: "The Moorlands is a great place to shop for festive gifts and Christmas treats, so I hope people take advantage of this offer and put Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek on their lists as places to visit this year."

While parking is free, other regulations, such as how long you can park for, will apply.
