Four murder arrests after man dies and another seriously injured in Stoke-on-Trent

Four people have been arrested as part of a murder investigation in Stoke-on-Trent after a man died and another man was "seriously injured".

Staffordshire Police was called at 11.45pm yesterday (Friday 9 October) to Brookhouse Road in Meir following reports of violence.

Officers attended alongside West Midlands Ambulance Service and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

A man in his late teens, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The police force said his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers at this time.

Another man, also in his late teens, was taken to hospital by ambulance with "life-threatening injuries".

In a statement made at 7.40am today (10 October) Staffordshire Police said: "He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital."

Staffordshire Police said officers have worked throughout the night to carry out inquiries "at pace".

This morning (Saturday 10 October), four people are in Staffordshire Police custody:

  • A 17-year-old boy, from Stoke-on-Trent, arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder
  • Two 18-year-old men, both from Stoke-on-Trent, each arrested on suspicion of murder
  • A 20-year-old man, from Stoke-Trent, arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector Katie Gregory, senior investigating officer in the case, said: "This is a devastating time for all those affected by what has happened overnight.

"I'd like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to them and we are doing all we can to understand the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area at around 11.30pm yesterday, who hasn't already spoken to us, to make contact with us as part of our investigation."

A cordon remains in place at the scene.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have relevant information or footage."
