A former factory building in Shelton is facing the bulldozers after demolition plans were put forward by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The former Olympus Engineering site in College Road has been declared surplus since 2020 and is set to be cleared to make way for apartments.

The council plans to take the redevelopment project forward using £2.2 million of government funding awarded in the second round of the Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF), a national scheme aimed at making derelict land ready for development. Another council-owned site, former Brookhouse Green Primary School site off Wellfield Road in Bentilee, is also earmarked for a housing scheme using the funding.

Proposals to demolish the three-story industrial building at College Road have now come forward for consideration. If approved, demolition work is set to begin at the end of April and expected to be completed in August.

The application form stated: "The property is beyond repair and is surplus to requirements. The site will be contoured to match surrounding levels."
