Firefighters tackle 'deliberate' fire in derelict Stoke-on-Trent building

Firefighters were called to extinguish a "deliberate" fire inside a derelict building in Stoke-on-Trent.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 4.45pm yesterday (Thursday 26 March) to Westport Road in Burslem, following reports of smoke coming from a derelict building.

Three appliances attended the scene and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

Nobody was reported injured and crews left the scene at around 8.15pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate, and the incident has been left with colleagues from Staffordshire Police and the local council."

In a statement made on social media, a spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent Police said: "We are appealing for information following a deliberate fire in Stoke-on-Trent. 

"We were called at 5.10pm yesterday (Thursday 26 March) to Westport Road, Burslem, following reports of a fire."

They added: "The cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate and our investigation is ongoing.

"We are appealing for anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the area at the time to contact us. Call 101, quoting incident 562 of 26 March, or use Live Chat on our website.
