Firefighters rescued a 23-year-old horse after he got stuck in a ditch in North Staffordshire.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Rownall Road in Wetley Rocks on Monday (5 October) after receiving reports of a trapped horse.

Crews worked to remove branches from around the horse, called Snowy.

They then put straps around him to lift him from the ditch.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "With the help of two local residents who operated a telehandler, Snowy was moved into a nearby field to rest.

"After crews had left the scene, Snowy was closely monitored by the vet and was able walk himself back into his stable to rest and recover following the ordeal."
