Stoke-on-Trent City Council has granted permission for two derelict properties in Shelton to be redeveloped into a three-storey block of flats for students.
Two three-bedroom houses on Havelock Place and Grove Place are currently in a poor state and so will be demolished to make way for the new development.
Mr Oliver Black, of Romiley Properties Ltd, applied for permission in December 2022 to transform the buildings into student residential accommodation.
The new accommodation will be built with red brick and the roof will be made of grey tiles.
Rooms for up to 18 students will be created as well as 12 cycle spaces.
On each of the three floors, there will be a kitchen and communal space as well as six bedrooms.
Angela Barlow, Case Officer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "The proposed redevelopment of the application site would remove two longstanding vacant properties which have fallen into disrepair and are currently detracting to the visual character of the surrounding area.
"The site is also in a highly accessible location, in terms of proximity to local shopping facilities along with the City Centre."
Work will begin on this new development within the next three years, as stated by the council as part of the decision notice.
