'Deliberate' fire extinguished in derelict Stoke-on-Trent building

Firefighters extinguished a "deliberate" fire inside a derelict Stoke-on-Trent building.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.20am on Sunday (26 July) to Stoke Road in Shelton following reports of a fire.

Three appliances and an aerial ladder platform attended the scene alongside Staffordshire Police officers and found a fire on the third floor.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire before thoroughly searching the building.

"Nobody was reported injured.

"The cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate and crews left the scene at 4.45pm."

Staffordshire Police is now appealing for information following the fire.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate and our investigation is ongoing.
