D-Day 80th anniversary commemoration event to take place in Stoke-on-Trent

A commemoration event to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings will take place in Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow (6 May).

A local community group will host the event at Hanley Park, Cleveland Road, between 10.30am and 1.30pm.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Lyn Sharpe, will be unveiling a new flower display, Rev. Geoff Eze will share some inspirational words and The Sweethearts will perform wartime hits live from the bandstand.

Local residents are invited to come together for this commemorative event (Friends of Hanley Park).

Friends of Hanley Park will also be embarking on a heritage walk to discover the hidden wartime memorials and history of the park.

Local residents are invited to come together to remember and honour the service of allied forces.
