Stoke-on-Trent City Council has granted planning permission for a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub on a busy road in the city.

Allego Charging Limited submitted an application back in May for "change of use to electric vehicle charging hub for associated equipment" on Uttoxeter Road, Longton.

The application site is currently an area of hardstanding used as a car park for a car dealership.

A Design and Access Statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "The proposed use is for an electric vehicle charging station and would provide no.12 charging bays, facilitated by no.6 alpitronic HYC150 chargers.

The application site is currently an area of hardstanding used as a car park (Nub News).

"The proposal is also for the erection of a substation with electrical cabinet and feeder pillar to house the necessary components needed for the charging bays as well as erecting no.4 low level streetlights.

"Parking at the EV charging stations is indicated with markings, and provides no.12 large charging spaces. The large size of the bays allows for disabled access and larger vehicles."

Only one objection was raised by a local resident, who had concerns over disruption and privacy.

The plans were approved by the city council on Friday 18 October and an Officer's Report says: "The installation of EV chargers is welcomed and installing such infrastructure is seen as an important component in moving towards assisting with the delivery of sustainable modes of transport and enabling the charging of plug-in vehicles.

"The proposal would provide enhancements to the appearance of the site by incorporating landscaping to an existing hardstanding site."
