A closure date for Longton's Wilko store has been announced after a rescue deal from HMV fell through earlier this month.

Today, administrators at PwC named many branches closing in the coming weeks, including Longton's store which will close on Wednesday 27 September.

Pepco Group, which owns Poundland in the UK, has secured a deal to take over 71 Wilko stores and turn them into Poundland stores.

Former Wilko stores in nearby Stafford, Rugeley, Leek and Litchfield will become Poundland branches, but Longton was not on the list.

B&M will also spend £13 million on a further 51 Wilko branches, which are not expected to run under the Wilko name. Details of which stores will be repurposed are yet to be confirmed.

The Range has also secured a deal to acquire the Wilko Brand, Website and Intellectual Property - saving 36 jobs.
