Call deemed a 'hoax' after firearms officers close Stoke-on-Trent road

Police closed a road in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday (23 February) evening, after reports that a man was seen with a firearm.

Eyewitnesses report seeing four police cars blocking off Farnworth Road, in Meir Hay, at around 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said, "Firearms officers went to the scene and carried out a thorough search of the area.

"After carrying out enquiries, it was established the call was likely a hoax".
