Café at popular Stoke-on-Trent park set to reopen under new plans
A once-popular cafe based at The Pavilion in Burslem Park is set to reopen in February under new ownership.
Brother and sister duo Emma and William will reopen the venue under a new name - The Pavilion Tea Room - with new community activities, homemade food and cakes planned for visitors.
Café Indi at The Pavilion closed in May last year due to 'unprecedented' challenges in relation to the cost of living crisis and issues surrounding the lease of the historic building from Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Emma Smith, one of the owners said: "We have lots of community activities planned along with homemade food and cake.
"We can't wait to meet everyone and once we are in decorating, all the shutters will be up so people can pop in to say hello.
"We are a brother and sister team taking over the Burslem Park Pavilion and we are hoping to open mid-February"
The pair are planning to open Wednesday-Sunday, 9am-4pm to begin with and bookings for Mother's Day afternoon tea are set to open soon - there will also be a special event to celebrate Stoke-on-Trent's centenary.
Park goers will also benefit from a new Burslem Community Hub which will be housed in the venue after the previous business became an ad hoc community group for some visitors.
Resident Pat Litherland said in May 2024: "We come to the park everyday and we use the cafe regularly since there's a group of us that get together. So it's been like a community hub for the locals."
The cafe originally opened in September 2022 and provided work experience, training and voluntary positions for adults and young people who wanted to gain experience in the hospitality industry.
Stoke Council have been working to reopen the mothballed building, inviting businesses in August to submit proposals for buildings in Burslem Park, Hanley Park and Westport Lake.
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "Visitors enjoy spending time outdoors at these three attractions in our city. They are well-loved spots and bring so much happiness and joy to thousands of people every month."
