Police are investigation after the body of a man was found in a canal in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Emergency services were called at 7am this morning (29 October) to a canal near Kidsgrove Train Station following a report that a body had been seen in the water.

Officers set up a cordon at the scene and sadly found a body.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are currently treating the death as unexplained and have launched an investigation to find out more about what happened.

"Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch with us by calling 101, quoting incident 86 of 29 October, or by using Live Chat on our website.

"To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
