UPDATE: The A50 is now open in both directions.

A stretch of the A50 is shut in North Staffordshire after a crash 'earlier this morning'.

The eastbound carriageway is currently closed between Blythe Bridge and Uttoxeter.

Staffordshire Police remains at the scene along with contractors from National Highways and traffic is being diverted through 'local routes'.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A50 in Staffordshire is closed eastbound between the A521 (near Blythe Bridge) and A522 (near Uttoxeter) following a collision.

"Staffordshire Police are currently on scene

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

Details regarding the nature of the collision are yet to be released.

Staffordshire Police and the West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for a statement.
